Ix-Chel Poot

Ix-Chel Poot is a Belmopan-born author, poet, and advocate whose literary journey has grown from school storytelling into a distinctive poetic and narrative voice. A dedicated contributor to Belize’s literary community, she is an active member of the Belize Book Sector Network and was awarded the Belize Literary Prize in 2015 and a Belize Writers Conference Fellowship in 2019. Committed to fostering creativity and community, she founded the Rhythm and Lyrics showcase and established a monthly writers’ circle. In 2024, several of her short stories were translated into Yucatec Maya, underscoring her dedication to preserving and promoting regional heritage. In 2025, she published her debut children’s book, Baby Star, Where Are You? She currently serves as Executive Director of the National Council on Ageing, Government of Belize.
